NJ Juvenile records can show up on criminal records. If you're charged with a disorderly persons offense, or any other adult offense that would be eligible for expungement, these offenses could qualify for expungement. Your entire juvenile criminal record may also be eligible for expungement. Juvenile criminal records can be expunged 5 years after adjudication, however, no adult criminal records can be expunged if they were dismissed by way of Pre-Trial Intervention.

Municipal ordinances can show up on a criminal record in New Jersey, although a municipal ordinance is a civil offense. There are no limits on how many can be expunged. There is a two year waiting period, from the date of your conviction, to the time runs from the time you finish paying any fines the court may have imposed. Disorderly persons offenses can be expunged in the state of NJ. The limit is currently 4. The convictions can be expunged 5 years from the later date of when probation has been completed or you were released from jail and when all fines and restitution have been paid. Early pathways expungements (for disorderly persons and indictable charges) may be available after just three years with additional cost and effort. Additionally, 6 months from the time you've completed a conditional discharge or conditional dismissal, a charge may be eligible for expungement.

Pre-Trial Intervention (PTI) is a diversionary program for people charged with indictable offenses in New Jersey. People who have successfully completed the PTI program will still show up on your criminal record. 6 months from the date of completion, a petition for expungement in NJ Superior Court can be applied for. In New Jersey marijuana possession and marijuana distribution may qualify for expungement depending on quantities. 3 or 4th degree charges for cocaine, heroin and some other drugs may qualify for expungement. In New Jersey, indictable felony offenses qualify for expungements 6 years from the later date of conviction, release from prison, when you finished probation, paid all fines and paid restitution. Only one indictable felony conviction and no more than 3 disorderly persons offenses will qualify for expungement. Under recent changes in the law, if you have a number of indictable criminal convictions, and they were all entered on the same day they're considered one conviction for expungement purposes. In New Jersey, certain crimes are ineligible for expungement, Homicides, Kidnapping, Human Trafficking, Arson, Sexual assault, Terrorism, False imprisonment , Robbery, and First and Second Degree drug offenses are ineligible for expungements.
